Growing up, I always knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a dentist. Not sure why, but that is what I wanted to do. After many scary and unpleasant experiences in the dental chair, especially as a child, I discovered quickly that this is something that I no longer was interested in. In my mind, I wanted to help people, but I did not want people to have a scary feeling when they thought about me. Therefore, I began examining other career fields.

I loved the beach, sea life, and mysteries of the ocean; and it was suggested I look into being a Marine Biologist. Well, after my third biology course (and believe me, I was struggling in each one), I realized that science was not the field for me. But I was a determined individual, and still am. I knew I needed to graduate with some type of degree because that is why I came to college right? With the help of my college academic advisor, we explored several majors of interests. My last stop was to the career center, where I was a frequent visitor. Through various interests and values assessments, I learned that I truly enjoy learning, teaching, training, educating, coaching, and helping others. These are my “superpower.”

I went on to further my education and worked in mental health/substance abuse before moving into Higher Education. In 2019, I was introduced to the Life Design Catalyst program by Bill Johnson, which confirmed and clarified my career path. My journey is still ongoing, just like your journey is ever evolving; but I have found an area where I can make the greatest and most meaningful impact.
